HOT ISSUE!SPARK Exhibition, 'The spark is within us'

This article covers the event the Year 10 Boys have completed, which requires business skill, and design thinking. This event has helped the Year 10 Boys with their Business iGCSE subject that they have been introduced to this year.

The first SPARK Exhibition was hosted on Tuesday, 4th of October that showcased the Year 10’s business Projects. The Year 10 students were recently introduced to Business as a subject for their upcoming iGCSES this year. To aid with their understanding of the new subject, They were given the privilege to work on a business project that revolves around the basis of the United Nations’ 17 goals; goals that are based on ending the planet’s current societal issues. These vary from objectives such as zero hunger and quality education for all.

Students arrived at school in their business attire. Several distinguished people arrived as guests to the event. These individuals ranged from; the parents of the students, Ms. Ranju, Ms. Albertha and the rest of the GEMS Education team. The individuals went to review projects. The guests would then interrogate the businessmen about their projects. The questions spanned from the sustainability behind the business to what made the idea unique.

What the students had to say

Students used their ideas to create their projects and products. These ranged from sweets, gadgets and beverages. Their works have impressed everyone that was invited. Their projects varied as:

  • Evorth: The motto of the company, “to a new life”, suitably describes its agenda; A project that provides a good tasting flavoured water with many options and flavours for sparkling water lovers, as well as non-sparkled water offered in packaging that is sustainable for the environment. Taher, the project leader said: ‘With the support of staff members we were able to display an amazing project with the hopes of inspiring others.’. He also says that the project was a ‘one-of-a-kind experience for him, and his team’.
  • Space Bubble Tea: Boba is a famous drink that attracts many customers with its target customers consisting of young people. However, there is a minority who cannot consume the beverage due to it being an unhealthy drink. This can affect people who suffer from health issues such as diabetes. The company; Space Bubble Tea, defeats that issue by providing low-calorie options, low-sugar options, as well as vegan options such as substituting full-fat cow’s milk with oat milk. Everyone, despite diet restrictions, gets to feel included. This way everyone can drink bubble tea. Khaled Fereas, team leader, says ‘The process to create our own business plans and promotion material was hard, we sure developed many business skills that will aid us in our business iGCSE course.’
  • Confection Connection:A bakery that provides delicious delights that satisfy everyone’s needs, with a range of sweets, and delights such as brownies, all the way to biscuits. Confection Connection also has many healthy options to make sure that everyone gets to taste the ultimately delicious delights, and sweets they have to offer! Zaid Shaheed, Project leader, says ‘SPARX Exhibition was a great experience for me as it was the first time I experienced something like this.’

They have been guided by Mr. Shawn, Ms. Sheillie, and Mr. Nitin throughout the whole event which students prepared for a month after getting back to school. The object behind the event was fulfilled as students enjoyed the event and understood more aspects of their new subject, Business. Furthermore this improved the skill behind understanding ownership in a business. These newly gained skills will be beneficial for their bright futures.
